Ian Somerhalder has got fans of The Vampire Diaries in a frenzy this weekend after tweeting a photo of his character Damon Salvatore's tombstone.
In the season five finale on the hit show, which aired a couple of weeks back, Ian's character Damon was seen going to The Other Side to save his friends but failed to make it back leaving him and Bonnie trapped. This raised the question as to whether Damon had gone forever.
With fans left reeling from the shock finale, Ian has now hinted it could be the end for Damon. Tweeting on Saturday the star shared a photo of Damon's tombstone alongside the words: "Rest in Peace Damon Salvatore. #GameOver :(".

Despite the teasing message from Ian, Julie Plec, TVD's co-creator recently revealed in an interview that the actor will be back for season six.
Speaking to TV Line, she was asked what the future holds for Damon and Bonnie given that death has been branded "irreversible" on the show from now on.
"I think [that] means there's a mystery attached to how the show ended," Plec explained. "Did they die? Did they find peace? Are they still on the Other Side? Does the Other Side still exist? If not, where the hell are they? And will they ever come back?"
Answering viewers' prayers, she confirmed: "Certainly, we will see Ian [Somerhalder] and Kat [Graham] again, but where and in what context?
"That's part of the mystery of Season six."
