She might not be playing Aaliyah in a big screen biopic anymore, but Disney star Zendaya still channelled the late singer with her outfit for last night's BET Awards.
The teen star stood out in a sea dresses in her hip hop look of matching blue jacket and skirt by Emanuel Ungaro, which she wore over a bandeau bra, and accessorised with a black hat.
The 17-year-old seemed keen to make a statement on the red carpet, despite the news breaking just hours before that she will no longer be starring in a film about Aaliyah's rise to stardom.
"Zendaya is no longer involved in the project," a rep simply stated yesterday. The Disney star confirmed her reasons for dropping out on Twitter as she retweeted quotes from E! News which read:
"Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya. She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right."

The star added her thanks to her fans after a headline grabbing few weeks, which saw some hit back at her casting in the film:
"my Zswaggers are the BEST! Thank you for your undying support thru everything", the teen wrote last night.
