Zendaya Pulls Out Of Aaliyah Biopic Amidst Controversy About Her Playing The Role
Jun 29th 2014, 19:12

It's over...

Zendaya will no longer star in the Aaliyah biopic that she only recently announced she would participate in. A rep for the actress broke the news today that the 17-year-old has pulled out of the film.

Despite controversy surrounding her being casted for the film, the rep didn't reveal her reason for leaving the project.

"Zendaya is no longer involved in the project," they simply stated.

Although her reason for leaving is unclear, E! News is reporting that there were production issues, which included obtaining rights to Aaliyah's music. The report also states that it was important to Zendaya that the film was done correctly.

"Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya," the source said. "She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right."

This comes after fans on twitter began to criticize Zendaya for her involvement in the film as many fans thought she was bad casting. At the time, Zendaya responded by stating that her goal was simply to honor Aaliyah.

"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter then ever, all I wanna do is honor her...Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years....she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, " she explained.

Lifetime, who will be airing the film, has not yet commented on her exit.
