Sir Elton John has said that Jesus would be pro-gay, arguing that he stood for "love and compassion".
Speaking to Sky News as Pride In London was kicking off around the capital, the singer and songwriter called for the church to use love as their central message.
"If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen," he told Sky News.

"He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together.
"And that is what the Church should be about."
He added, however, that the Church had done well in terms of equal rights over recent years; hailing Pope Francis as a "wonderful" man.
He also said that he plans to speak to President Vladimir Putin when he heads over to Russia next.
"It's no good putting up a wall and saying I'm not talking to these people; the only way things get solved is by talking to people," he explained.
"There are so many people out there who are living a life of hell and I'm living a life of, you know, luxury and I have my human rights intact and I won't forget."
