Oh Dear! Gary Barlow's All-Star World Cup Song 'Greatest Day' Dropped By FA And ITunes
Jun 1st 2014, 10:13

Poor Gary Barlow, first he's in trouble for tax avoidance and now it's been revealed that both the FA and iTunes are planning to drop his single 'Greatest Day', despite claims it was to become England's official World Cup song.

The former X-Factor judge pulled together a string of celebrities, including football pundit Gary Lineker and singer Kimberley Walsh, to feature on the cover of the Take That track but despite his efforts the song has reportedly failed to score with fans and has since been removed from iTunes.

The track was available to download in March as part of Sport Relief and although the track was endorsed by the FA, the organisation has revealed that they have no plans to release it as a single.

A spokesman said: "Although we have given our endorsement, it is very much their (Comic Relief) production and any release would be managed by them with all proceeds going to their charity."

Despite claims it would be, Gary's song will not be the official World Cup song (WENN)

And it doesn't seem as though Comic Relief are planning to release the 43-year-old's song anytime soon - or even ever. The charity stated: "There are currently no plans to release the version Greatest Day shown on the Sport Relief 2014 night of TV as a single.

"The video will be available to view on YouTube during the World Cup."

The bad news comes weeks after it was revealed that Gary and Take That bandmates Mark Owen and Howard Donald were involved in a tax avoidance scheme that has seen the Let Me Go singer having to pay back millions.

A number of other football-themed songs are now being reviewed to bag the title of the official World Cup song, the favourite being that released by Mansfield fans Mark Estell and Stephen Goalby titled 'Come on England (Don't Break My Heart)' which has already received a ton of downloads on iTunes.
