The Valleys Cast Left 'In Turmoil' After Show Is 'Axed By MTV'
Jun 1st 2014, 14:06

Reports are claiming that MTV reality show The Valleys has been scrapped after its falling ratings failed to satisfy the network.

The reality show - which focuses on a group of young Welsh people living together in Cardiff in the hopes of hitting the big time - could be scrapped after the arrival of new shows such as Ex On the Beach.

And if the reports are true it seems the axing is going to be one that is much welcomed by a Welsh campaign group that has opposed the programme since it first aired.

Alex Bevan, co-founder of The Valleys Are Here, said: "MTV's executives have embarrassed themselves from day one and had no clue how to deal with the response from the community. For this and more, they won't be missed."

The group was started by people who felt that the MTV show - which features non-stop swearing and nudity - failed to show respect to the Welsh people and that certain areas were stereotyped on the programme.

A report on Heat magazine's website also claims that cast members - which include Lateysha Grace, Nicole Harris, Jenna Jonathon, Natelee Harris and Chidgey - are "in turmoil" after hearing the show could be scrapped after just three seasons - not a long time when compared to shows of a similar nature including MTV's Geordie Shore, which will see its eighth season this summer.

An MTV insider has allegedly said: "The Valleys has performed exceptionally well for MTV".

"However, with our audience always looking for new and engaging content, we're focused on developing new original programma ideas for the MTV schedule such as new smash hit Ex On The Beach."

MTV are yet to confirm whether or not the reports are true.
