Amanda Holden has angered many viewers of Britain's Got Talent after comparing the efforts of Paddy Jones, the dancing granny, to that made by soldiers on D-Day.
The reality show judge said she admired the 'fighting spirit' of Jones, 79, which she claimed resembled the courage of those soldiers during the D-Day landings on Normandy in World War II.
Shocked viewers took to Twitter to voice their disdain during the live show on Saturday night.
Insulting: Amanda Holden angers BGT fans for comparing the 'fighting spirit' of dancing granny Paddy Jones, to the courage of D-Day soldiers
Kyle Harding tweeted: 'How on earth can @Amanda_Holden compare salsa dancing to the D-day landings? That's insulting to all the veterans that fought. #BGT (sic)'.
Fellow Twitter user, Charlotte Grace, wrote: 'did @Amanda_Holden just belittle the heroism of the d-day landings by comparing them to salsa dancing on @GotTalent ? #nomate '.
While Scott Matthewman tweeted: 'Waiting for Amanda Holden to claim that Little Mix's "Salute" is the centrepiece of the D-Day 70th anniversary commemorations #BGT'
Ninth: Paddy and Nico came third to last in the public vote on Saturday
Odd comparison: Though Jones has done well to reach the level of skill in salsa at her age, many do not feel this effort was on the same level as the war effort
Paddy and her partner Nico came ninth, after they took to the stage in black, silver and white outfits.
Of course the routine was full of lifts, and some saucy moves on Paddy's part.
All the judges stood up to applaud, and David said: 'Watching the two of you dance is a wonderful joy. You've showed that just because you're older doesn't mean you can't be talented, or sexy.'
Complaints: Twitter blew up with criticism because of Amanda's ill-opportune comments
Final: The judges were making their last appearances behind the desk
Alesha said: 'I love you; I'm so inspired by you. You prove to all of us that life is meant to be lived.'
'I feel so proud of you, you've come back from injury – I hope that today is Pad-D Day,' Amanda emotionally said.
Simon said Paddy was a 'true inspiration' and she 'may have got her shot tonight' to perform in front of the Queen.
Racy: Amanda wore a very low cut dress for the show
