The showbiz world was shocked yesterday when Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas announced plans to divorce after 18 years of marriage, but a new report suggests it wasn't so sudden.
56-year-old Griffith filed from divorce from the Puss In Boots actor, 53, in Los Angeles on June 6, citing irreconcilable differences.
She is now seeking spousal support from Banderas as well as physical custody of their daughter Stella, who is 17-years-old.

Speaking to the New York Post, one source said: "Melanie and Antonio have had issues for a long time. They used to be so affectionate with each other, but more recently they've been drifting apart."
Another claimed: "There's been an arrangement in their marriage, for some time, to stay together despite their problems, because of the children and his Catholic religious beliefs. They have worked hard to keep this split as amicable as possible."

The couple's official statement had read: "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalise our almost-20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner, honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together."
Griffith was previously married twice to Don Johnson, with whom they had a daughter, Dakota - who will be seen fronting the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie next year.
