Celebrity Masterchef: Panicky Pancakes, Floor Food And Gregg's Dessert Dance Take Two
Jun 27th 2014, 21:22

Last night we saw Millie Mackintosh, Alex Ferns, Wayne Sleep, Leslie Ash and Tania Bryer don their best chef whites and enter the terrifying Masterchef lair. After some pretty dodgy pizzas, a hairy professional kitchen challenge and some delicious-looking two-course meals (according to John Torode and Gregg Wallace anyway), we said goodbye to Tania and hello to a whole new level of cooking.

Eek! In the next round, the four remaining celebrities were thrown in at the deep end with a knowledge and skills test based on sweeteners and syrups, before heading off for a scary mass catering challenge. If that wasn't enough for them, they then had to come back and cook two more courses for a panel of ex-Celebrity Masterchef finalists - Adrian Edmondson, Christine Hamilton and Les Dennis.

Blimey! If you missed all the highs, lows, drama and some very hot kitchens, fear not. We've rounded up the five best moments of the show here for you:

"You've never actually made pancakes have you Wayne?"

The moment John and Gregg mention the skills and knowledge challenge, the celebrities suddenly go a bit pale and start panicking. But actually, most of tonight's celebrities managed to identify a fair few syrups and make half decent pancakes. Initially, it looked like this challenge could be the downfall of Wayne, as he not only identified just two of the six ingredients but also made Gregg giggle with his "bull in a china shop" cooking. However, after taking his own "more haste less speed" advice, he actually managed some delicious pancakes!

Feeding the floor-thousand

Seems like part of the challenge of the show is keeping the food off the floor if this episode is anything to go by! In the skills and knowledge challenge, Millie almost fell at the final pancake-y hurdle when she quite literally chucked her "half pancake, half crumpet" on the floor, but quickly saved it with "the two second rule." Then, in The Wellcome Trust catering challenge, the vegetables that Leslie slaved over chopping fell on the floor quite dramatically. Eek! Luckily, it was Millie and the head of the kitchen to the rescue, who told them to just "put them in a colander and wash them". Phew! THEN, Wayne got a bit enthusiastic in the final challenge and chucked his saucepan lid far away from his workbench. Kitchens really are stressful places!

Definitely a stressful second round for the celebrities, but who would beat the challenges? (BBC Pictures)

Wayne and Alex's hairy moment!

Despite John's comment that Wayne and Alex's food would be as "refined as a punch in the ear," their mass catering challenge actually turned out pretty good. Well, that was until someone returned their pasta because it had a hair in it and she went over to the girls' food instead. Gross! Perhaps Alex's hair should've been replaced by a hairnet. The whole thing seemed to be missed by Gregg and John though, who said it's the "first time we've done a mass catering challenge and I haven't been scared of the food." Result!

Gregg's dessert dance take two

After declaring his love for Wayne's dessert via the art of dance yesterday, the dance made a reappearance tonight thanks to Millie and her gorgeous roulade. In fact, her food was SO good, the celebrity panel actually asked her if she was a professional chef! Christine even described her dessert as "sheer food heaven." Well done Millie!

Leslie's food mishaps

Not surprisingly, Leslie was a bundle of nerves going into the celebrity judging chamber - we would be too. Problem was, those nerves affected her cooking and very almost ruined her whole meal. Firstly, she burnt the sauce for her venison and secondly, and most catastrophically, she forgot to put any flour in her first batch of brownies, meaning they pretty much exploded all over the oven. Doh! Thankfully, she managed to get a whole new batch out, although the celebrity judges described it as more of a sponge or a "fondant gone wrong." Well, at least they had flour!

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to two celebrities tonight, and it was Alex and Leslie who faced a surprising chop. But did they deserve to go?
