Seeger honored at 1st folk festival since he died
Jun 21st 2014, 17:35

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) — Music luminaries are honoring late folk icon Pete Seeger at the annual music and environmental festival he began more than 30 years ago on the shore of the Hudson River.

Tom Paxton, Tom Chapin, Holly Near, Dar Williams and others performed together to honor Seeger, who died at 94 in January. Sets were planned to honor the music of the Weavers and Almanac Singers, both bands that featured Seeger.

Lucinda Williams, Rufus Wainwright, Richard Thompson and Norah Jones are among the headliners at a festival expected to draw 25,000 people over two days.

Led by Chapin, the Seeger tribute band opened with "Midnight Special," a folk song recorded by Seeger and others. They led the audience in a singalong of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone."
