Ahead of Big Brother's return to TV screens on Thursday night, the new look futuristic Big Brother house has opened its doors for a special preview viewing.

Boasting plenty of modern, if not post-modern curves, bold bright green and purple colours and, most importantly, even more openness without anywhere to hide, the new Big Brother house looks more like a futuristic spacecraft than a comfy home.

Gone are the lavish soft furnishings from Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, replaced with state-of-the-art homewear that does not suggest 'easy assembly at home'.

The ultra cool makeover of the Big Brother is no doubt in keeping in line with the new season's plan to be more about where the series is heading to, than where it has been in the past, or repeating past glories.

This year it has been announced that Big Brother is going high tech.

Although they will leave their phones, iPads and Twitter accounts behind, the new housemates will discover that technology is at the heart of this year's house. Housemates' hands will also be scanned on an identity touch pad to allow them access to the Diary Room.

The outside area of the BB house is now all about clean lines, groovy pot plants and green space, with plenty of bright purple seating, as well as the usual swimming pool and sports area.

The new layout also allowed for housemates to not only watch from upstairs what is going on below in the garden but because it is open upstairs as well they can also be viewed from the garden.

The bedroom can only be accessed via the garden, where as usual, housemates will need to share the modern communal space. If housemates need an area to escape to, they'll discover a private futuristic pod set high above the garden.

So too the living room space inside looks like a combination of a Star Trek movie set along with something that you might see from an IKEA catalogue circa 2025.

The sofas are either trimmed in bright green or indeed are all bright green just to keep the colour combination clear, with plenty of purple shading in the colouring on the walls and cupboards too.

An interactive LED wall will feature the housemates' faces and each week after nominations colours will change to illustrate who is facing the public vote.

Likewise, the kitchen is perhaps the most forward-thinking of all the rooms in the new BB premises.

It's only on close examination that you can actually see that there are places for making coffee and toast on the benches though where exactly the fridge is, remains to be seen.

While there are hits of the green and purple colour combo from the rest of the house, the kitchen also goes for some bright geometric yellow shades on the flooring which are certain to have some viewers reaching for their 3D glasses at some point.

Elsewhere the chairs for eating are once again in bright green, while the cabinet for crockery is in muted shades of purples with a giant mirror in the middle of it, just to make sure that everyone is watching from every possible angle.

The bedrooms are also a good example of BB's new philosophy of going 'back to the future' with the design. While the beds look comfortable enough, the question remains - is this new futuristic sleeping area likely to induce anyone to want to have a late night romp or early morning cuddle under the sheets?

With the design being so functional, rather than sexy, hopefully when the lights go down of a night then the harsh corners of the furniture and the settings will fade into the distance as the BB housemates get to know each other on a number of other levels outside of the usual games and hot tub chatter.

Meanwhile it was revealed last month that Luisa Zissman had been hired to be a regular panellist on Big Brother's Bit On The Side, as well as Big Brother's Bit On The Psyche and a roving reporter on the former.

She will appear alongside Rylan Clarke and Iain Lee as well as main show presenter, Emma Willis.
The show will dissect the antics in the house from a psychological perspective with the help of the panel and trained psychologists.

Luisa was one of this year's Celebrity Big Brother's' raunchiest housemates alongside housemates Jasmine Waltz, Lee Ryan, Casey Batchelor and Dappy.

The new series of Big Brother debuts on Channel 5 on June 5 at 9pm.
