The buyer's name has not been revealed, but yesterday an Oscar was sold for a whopping $79,200 an auction in Rhode Island.
The award which was anticipated to go for $5,000 to $30,000 was originally awarded to director Joseph C. Wright at the 15th Academy Awards, for his 1942 film 'My Gal Sal'.
Nanci Thompson of Briarbrook Auctions was reluctant to reveal the name but said "You would recognize the name."
Luckily the sold statue wasn't quite as large as this one. (Wenn)

During his lifetime Wight won two Oscars for his art direction in the films My Gal Sal and This Above All.
