Coldplay have proved they really are the biggest band on the planet after their latest album Ghost Stories has become the fastest selling album of the year in the US, soaring straight to number one on the Billboard Top 200.
The sixth studio album from Chris Martin and the band sold 383,000 copies on its first week of sale, making it the highest selling debut week since Beyonce's record breaking self-titled surprise album which shifted a staggering 617,000 downloads last December.

Ghost Stories is the fourth studio album from the British rockers to debut straight at the number one spot, following 2011's Mylo Xyloto, 2008's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends and 2005's X&Y.
Meanwhile, Michael Jackson's Xscape clings on to its position in the top three at number three, Frozen stays firm at number four and the Black Keys fall from one to five on their second week of release.
Last week Ghost Stories became the fastest selling album of 2014 in the UK as well as scoring the band their sixth consecutive number one album.
