Tracy Morgan May Not Walk For Months As He Battles Tough Recovery
Aug 30th 2014, 16:58, by Emily Morgan

Tracy Morgan has put on a brave face during his recovery, but he continues to struggle with his rehabilitation three months after a deadly auto accident.

"He's really having a tough time," Tracy's attorney Benedict P. Morelli told The Star-Ledger in New Jersey.

The comedian suffered a broken leg, nose and several ribs in a June 7 accident that claimed the life of Tracy's good friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair. A Walmart tractor-trailer struck their limo bus on the New Jersey Turnpike and injured three other friends in the bus.

Tracy returned home on July 12 after spending five weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. He's undergone at-home therapy but may not be able to walk without assistance for a few more months.

"He's making incremental progress," Benedict said. "But they'll have to wait another month before they assess him cognitively."

The former Saturday Night Live star made his first public appearance on July 14 when photographers caught him getting to his car with the help of a walker. Tracy appeared in good spirits as he leaned out the passenger window and flashed the peace sign.

"I'm ok. I'm ok," he told the gathered photographers. "I love you very much. Thank you. I appreciate everything."

His good friend and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel gave a special shout out to Tracy at the Emmys on Aug. 25. "Shout out to Tracy Morgan. We'll see you next year, Tracy."

Tracy and the three other injured in the crash have filed a lawsuit against Walmart for the company responsibility in the accident. The plaintiffs claim the retail giant's "negligent was a substantial contributing factor in causing plaintiffs' injuries," according to the complaint.

The truck driver Kevin Roper pleaded not guilty to criminal charges that include vehicular homicide and assault by auto a week after the accident. Kevin had allegedly not slept in the 24 hours prior to the crash.
