Robin Williams Memorial: Actor's Children, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg Give 'Tearful' Tributes
Sep 28th 2014, 16:38

Robin Williams was remembered yesterday during a touching memorial service in San Francisco with reports claiming his widow, three children and celebrity friends including Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg, spoke to say kind words about the late actor who died last month.

Hundreds of the late 63-year-old's friends and family are said to have attended the service held at the iconic Curran Theatre on Saturday, including his wife Susan Schneider and children Zak, 31, Zelda, 25, and Cody, 22. According to the New York Daily News, Billy Crystal opened the ceremony, which was dubbed the Celebration of Life, with a teary speech. "It was a true celebration from beginning to end. It was emotional, but it was also filled with incredible laughter," a source told the publication.

"Whoopi told an amazing anecdote about when Billy, Robin and she went to Washington D.C. to meet Ted Kennedy. It was something about Robin saying, 'Okay, if Ted says he'll drive, let's regroup. Whoopi could barely get through it she was laughing so hard." Williams' children are then said to have taken to the stage individually to give their speeches, as did his widow Susan. "Everyone had anecdotes. It was really special. It was an amazing and fitting tribute for an incredible person," the source revealed.

A reception for the guests was reportedly held at the Westin St. Francis Hotel after the emotional service. Other attendees, who are said to have been given wristbands with a hummingbird image and the phrase: "Love the stillness of life," included Williams' Mork & Mindy co-star Pam Dawber, Lance Armstrong, George Lucas and Danny DeVito, Seth Green, Bette Midler, Eddie Izzard, Ben Stiller, Jeff Bridges and Josh Groban.
