Benedict Cumberbatch Blames Ellen DeGeneres Over Photobomb Stunt At The Oscars
Sep 30th 2014, 15:19

Benedict Cumberbatch MADE the Oscars when he photobombed U2 on the red carpet at the prestigious event, and now the Sherlock actor has blamed US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres for his stunt.

Speaking to Time Out London, the Sherlock actor revealed that Ellen had a part to play in his decision to make his way into the picture of U2, because she was giving out vodka on the red carpet. He said: "Yes, I photobombed U2! But that was all [host] Ellen DeGeneres' fault because she plied everyone with vodka on the red carpet. Her team was handing out these miniatures. A friend really wanted me to get a photo with U2. So I just saw the opportunity and I've never felt an impulse like it. I spotted them all."

And we've loved Benedict even more since that day! But the actor didn't just have fun on the red carpet because he went on to recall how he ended up dancing to Pharrell Williams' Happy with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie!

"I sat next to Brad and Angelina, and they were treating me like anybody [else]. They said: 'You know, Benedict, this can be pretty tiresome,'" Benedict revealed: "Then after the second award we were up on our feet and dancing to Pharrell. We had a lot of fun." Oh, how we wish we could have seen that!

On the subject of the Oscars and the actor played down the speculation that he could be nominated for a covered academy award for his role as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Speaking to Hello magazine, the actor said that "it is so premature that it would almost be futile to talk about it", before going on to say: "I understand why it always happens at festivals but I just got my suit back from the dry cleaners from this year's Oscars. There are lots of films to see before we start going, 'Ooh, blah, blah'."

Content with the film getting more attention due to the speculation, Benedict continued to comment: "The most important thing is that any kind of buzz creates an interest in the film, which means people will see it hopefully and that means the Alan Turing story will get to a broader audience. And that, as a storyteller, is all I am concerned about. And if I have done a good job as him as well, that's great."
