One Direction may have faced stiff competition from those 5 Seconds Of Summer guys during this year's MTV Hottest poll, but the band managed to pip the lads to the post, as they bagged a whopping 56, 338,467 votes in total.
The total votes in this year's poll hit an incredible 333, 306,701 and although 5SOS were up there throughout the majority of the month, it was actually Justin Bieber who bagged the second spot, with 47, 444, 314 votes.
In third place was Lana Del Rey, with 26, 333, 338 and Lady Gaga in fourth with 24, 899, 533. Rounding off the top 5 were 5SOS, with 18, 471, 651, meaning that they took the crown for top Australian act.

In a special video message that was recorded for MTV, 1D's Louis Tomlinson gushed: "We are absolutely over the moon and we realised that we couldn't do this without you, you guys are the best fans in the world!"
