Foxcatcher Added To The BFI London Film Festival Lineup But Channing Tatum Will Skip Gala Screening
Aug 29th 2014, 13:13

Channing Tatum and Steve Carell's drama Foxcatcher has joined the stellar lineup for this year's BFI London Film Festival, which kicks off in October. But there's bad news for Channing fans, as it looks like the busy star will be forced to skip the gala screening.

Bennett Miller's film will receive its UK premiere on Thursday, October 16 as the festival's gala screening. But while the director, Carell and our very own Sienna Miller will all walk the red carpet in Leicester Square, Channing won't be in attendance. The actor's schedule is seriously hectic at the moment, he's currently got three huge movies in pre-production- the star-studded Hail Caesar! the latest Magic Mike installment and X-Men: Apocalypse, in which he'll debut as Gambit ahead of a standalone movie in 2016.

Channing and his co-stars have already kick-started the promo run for Foxcatcher, with the drama debuting at the Cannes Film Festival back in May. The movie tells the real-life story of Olympic Wrestling champion Mark Schultz (Tatum), and his friendship with John du Pont (Carell) the multimillionaire paranoid schizophrenic who went on to kill his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo).

Steve is almost unrecognisable in his role playing du Pont, with the comedy star hotly tipped for an Oscar nod next year, while the film marks a huge shift for Channing into hard-hitting drama.

Foxcatcher joins London Film Festival lineup

BFI London Film Festival Director Clare Stewart has voiced her excitement at landing the film for the lineup, saying that the drama is one of 2014's "most powerful and important films". Director Miller meanwhile added that he's "thrilled that Foxcatcher will be playing the LFF and I'm thrilled to be attending. I suspect Britons will have a special relationship with this film."

Foxcatcher is the latest addition to a hugely impressive lineup for the 2014 film fest with Benedict Cumberbatch's The Imitation Game opening the event on October 8, while Brad Pitt war drama Fury closes the progamme on October 19. The full lineup will be announced on September 3.
