Ahead Of 'Sheezus' Release: Lily Allen's 10 Best Songs So Far (PLAYLIST)
May 3rd 2014, 13:47

Lily Allen releases her new album Sheezus in the UK on Monday (May 5), so before we rush out to buy our copy, let's take a look back down memory lane at her finest creations thus far.

Read up on our selections, then listen to them all in the Spotify playlist at the bottom!

10. 'Shame For You'
From the Alright, Still album, this one's just got one heck of a big chorus on it and sounds great at a very, very loud volume.

9. 'Chinese'
This album track from It's Not Me, It's You is a big fan fave, and rightly so. When a song manages to genuinely touch you without being an obvious "ballad", you know you're on to a winner.

8. 'Nan You're A Window Shopper'
Those who were fans of Lily before she was a chart-straddling media goddess will have been familiar with this one. A real gem.

7. 'Knock 'Em Out'
We remember being at a tour date in Cambridge when Alright, Still was being toured, and the crowd went absolutely bonkers for this one. The ad-libbed bit at the end is fabulous.

6. 'I Could Say'
For us, this song from INMIY just edges 'Littlest Things' from the first album. We could be completely misinterpreting the lyrics, but for us it seems almost to be a sequel to 'Smile' - as if time has passed, the storm has settled and the angry ridicule has given way to a touching mix of sorrow and acceptance.

5. 'LDN'
Still remembered fondly if only for the dress and trainers in the video. #ICONIC. (Note also: Song is very good, too).

4. 'Hard Out Here'
Lily roared back into the game last year with this perfect look at gender politics in the music industry. And with lines like "If I told you 'bout my sex life, you'd call me a s**t / When boys be talking bout their b***hes, no-one's making a fuss", it goes far beyond that and into a much broader comment about society in general.

3. 'Not Fair'
"I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed / I'm feeling pretty damn hard done by, I spent ages giving..." Well, we probably shouldn't finish that lyric, but you get the jist. The fact you can do-si-do to it is just the cherry on the cake.

2. 'Smile'
The big breakout smash, 'Smile' is still the perfect kiss-off, and it hasn't aged one bit.

1. 'The Fear'
Sometimes Lily is amazing at taking swipes at pop culutre/her enemies/the world in general, and sometimes she's amazing at emotionally-charged personal songs that have a genuine vulnerability to them. 'The Fear' is top of this list because it's a perfect combination of the two.
