It seems that even a top Hollywood actor can't resist having a flutter at the races.

Tom Cruise was among the VIPs stepping out for Ladies' Day at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday, and he got a special welcome as The Band of The Yorkshire Regiment played the theme tune to Mission: Impossible on his arrival.

And showing he still has the ability to make women swoon, the star was seen enjoying an animated conversation with royal Zara Phillips.

The star, who is currently in London for his latest film, was even seen taking a picture with the Queen's grandchild, much to Natalie Pinkham's delight.

Tom, 52, donned a perfectly tailored grey suit, which he teamed with a white shirt, blue tie and black brogues for the event in Chichester, West Sussex.

Ever the superstar, he added a pair of sunglasses to his ensemble as he hung out with the likes of Lord March and presented a trophy to supermodel Edie Campbell, winner of the Magnolia Cup.

The actor, who was flocked by fans to pose for an endless stream of selfies, was also seen getting into the action as he cheered on his backed horse from the stands.

But judging by his facial expression, it seemed he didn't walk away a winner.

TV personality Carol Vorderman, 53, also turned heads, arriving on the sunny day in a navy jumpsuit and wide-brimmed hat.

Tom's upcoming action blockbuster will use London as its setting, which also was one of the locations in the first movie following the actor as secret agent Ethan Hunt.

Some action scenes will reportedly include a bike chase down the Mall, a boat chase on the River Thames and some nifty stunts involving the Emirates Cable Car.

Tom will also be shooting scenes in Tenerife before the London production gets underway, according to the Sun.

Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are expected to return as William Brandt and Benji Dunn, with Paula Patton and Ving Rhames rumoured to be reprising their roles as Jane Carter and Luther Stickell respectively.
