Chris Pratt Admits 'I Had No Idea What I Was' Before Taking On Role In Guardians Of The Galaxy

By Adam Miller On July 30, 2014

Chris Pratt has admitted that prior to his role as the heroic Star Lord in Marvel's latest action-packed blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, he suffered a major identity crisis as an actor revealing he had "no idea what I was".

The star who has is steadily becoming one of the most bankable names in Hollywood, starring in two of the year's biggest hits – Guardians and of course the surprise smash of 2014, The Lego Movie – confessed he never saw himself playing a superhero but thanks James Gunn for seeing his potential.

The 35-year-old is best known for his roles in 2012's Osama Bin-Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty and the hilarious Parks and Recreation - two totally polar opposite performances.

So when asked if he felt that he had a lot to prove auditioning for the Marvel picture, he explained to Collider: "I'm not sure that I even saw myself in this kind of a role.

Chris Pratt admits he suffered from an identity crisis before GOTG (WENN)

''What's really nice about this movie is that I believe we did something that's never been done before ... So, maybe people wouldn't have seen me in this role, but that's because they weren't able to have the vision that James [Gunn, director] had for what this could be.''

He went on to open up about the uncertainty he felt regarding his next move before GOTG, telling them: ''At the time [of my audition], I had been having an identity crisis, as an actor. I didn't know what I was and whether I was an action guy or a comedy guy.

''I thought, 'Maybe I could do a combination of both, but there's nothing out there that's like that. Maybe I have to develop something'. And my manager just kept saying, 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. So, I said, 'Maybe you're right. Let's go meet on it'. And then, James said, 'I just want somebody to do their thing'.''

Well thank goodness he took that leap of faith to sign on for Guardians because we've seen it and we can tell you now that he is bloomin' marvelous!
