Hearing set for Hollywood sex abuse lawyer change
Jul 31st 2014, 00:43

HONOLULU (AP) — A court hearing in Honolulu has been scheduled for lawyers who want out of a case accusing 'X-Men' director Bryan Singer of sex abuse.

The Aug. 6 hearing will discuss a request by attorneys Jeff Herman and Mark Gallagher to withdraw as counsel for Michael Egan III. They say they no longer talk to Egan except through a new lawyer.

Egan, 31, accuses Singer in a lawsuit of sexually abusing him during trips to Hawaii when he was 17 in 1999. Singer has denied the allegations.

A hearing for Singer's motion to dismiss the lawsuit is scheduled for Sept. 9.

Egan previously dropped three similar lawsuits against other entertainment figures.

The lawsuits were filed under a Hawaii law that allowed civil actions in abuse cases where the statute of limitations had passed.
