David Duchovny Explains Russian Beer Ad, Insists It Is "Not a Political Statement"
Jul 28th 2014, 19:39, by Hilton Hater

David Duchovny understands why people are bothered by his new commercial.

The actor anchors an ad for Siberian Crown beer that was released online Friday and which has led to a considerable amount of backlash, considering the conflict in eastern Ukraine and allegations surrounding the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17.

In a statement to TMZ, Duchovny explains why he chose to star in the spot and why he's not expressing support for any nation as a result of it.

"I am proud of my Russian, Ukrainian, Scottish and Polish heritage as I am proud of my American heritage," Duchovny says. "But being proud of one's ancestry is not a political statement on any current government or public policies."

He adds:

"In retrospect, and in light of recent tragic events, I can now see the potential for misunderstanding and hope people will understand."
