'I Don't Want To Wear A Corset For The Rest Of My Career:' Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Karen Gillan On Leaving The UK For Hollywood
Jul 24th 2014, 21:36

Karen Gillan is pretty happy with her decision to swap the UK for Hollywood to further her movie career, telling EntertainmentWise at the London premiere for her new big screen blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, that she's never been a period drama kinda girl.

The Scot actress plays Marvel's first female villain Nebula in the summer blockbuster and the role required a lot of dedication. As well as working out for months and perfecting her fight skills (there's one epic combat scene between her and Zoe Saldana in the movie), Karen had to shave off those long red locks, not that the drastic makeover bothered her.

"It was really fun going bald," Karen told EntWise on the blue carpet in Leicester Square tonight. "I think it was really liberating and I wanted to do something different with my hair because I was really bored of having my long hair. I don't think I'm keeping it though, I think I'm going back to long!"

"Bald and blue is not something that you know you think 'oh that would be a good look!'"

Karen also told us that her first major movie experience has been "epic. I've never been to a premiere this big before so I'm totally flabbergasted right now."

Making the jump from the small screen has been helped by the 26-year-old's old buddies from her Doctor Who days with Karen gushing: "They were so, so supportive, absolutely. They're all excited to watch the film and they've been calling me to see how everything's been going."

With the actress set to star in new US TV series Selfie, her Doctor Who pals won't be seeing her back on our shores for awhile, but Karen insists she will be back home soon. "Oh no! I'm not going to leave I promise! I'm coming home as much as possible."

But Karen has her future career path firmly in sight, adding of her leap across the pond: "It'll be weird living out there in a different country; I mean it's going to be sunny all the time! I miss home so much, I have to be totally honest but the opportunities for actresses my age out there are amazing, and they're amazing here too but I feel like it's a lot of period dramas and I don't want to really wear a corset for the rest of my career!"
