Guardians of the Galaxy may have won the summer box office, but when it comes to Twitter chatter, Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort's weepie The Fault In Our Stars is the champ.
Marvel's Guardians is officially the highest grossing movie of 2014 at the US box office, so far taking a massive $280m (£168m). The Fault in Our Stars is lagging in terms of box office totals, but tracking firm Fizziology has uncovered some great news for the teen-favourite.
The firm has combed through tweets, Facebook likes and other social media platforms to assess how this summer's biggest movies are resonating online. TFIO was the most discussed film of the summer, accounting for more than five million mentions, the company found.
Shailene and Ansel's movie beat huge blockbusters like Godzilla, Guardians and 22 Jump Street, but when broken down it's hardly surprising why the love story is so popular in the online world. Teens control Twitter, and they love both John Green's book which the movie is based on, and the big screen adaptation. Then there's the John Green factor. The author is a huge presence on Twitter, with over three million followers, he's also pretty major on the vlogging network.

No wonder Shailene and Ansel can't stop smiling
"John Green did an amazing job bringing fans of the book through the process of making the film and ultimately releasing the film," Ben Carlson, president and co-creator of Fizziology, has told Variety, adding: "The film itself was so well received and anticipated by an audience that tends to be pretty noisy on social media."
Upcoming teen movies based on YA favourites like this month's The Maze Runner, November's new Hunger Games installment and March's Divergent follow-up Insurgent, are sure to follow the trend in the online world. Watch out blockbusters.
