Great British Bake Off Is More Popular Than Football
Sep 4th 2014, 11:39

We might be a nation of football fans, but we sure aren't interested in watching it as much as a baking competition as last night's England friendly against Norway attracted just 4.5 million viewers on Wednesday night in comparison to 8.3 million who tuned in to see the latest episode of the Great British Bake Off.

After last week's baked alaska nightmare and the furore over Iain's exit after Diana took his show-stopper out of the freezer, it's not a surprise that pies and tarts week brought in a the viewers with an average of 8.3 million throughout the BBC 1 show.

The fifth series has enjoyed soaring ratings this year after it's move to BBC One. It's opener attracted 7.2 million, up from last year's 5.6 million.

Rooney and his men could only manage half that as they managed a 1-0 victory. After their disappointing display at the Brazil World Cup it appears fans aren't as interested in the national side, with only around 40,000 heading down to Wembley for the mid-week game.

Let's be honest Mary Berry is much nicer to look at that Wayne Rooney!
