TMZ is reporting that Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was arrested for DUI while driving in Maryland late last night.
Phelps was reportedly doing 84 in a 45 mph zone when he was stopped by officers who immediately realized the record breaking swimmer was very drunk.
Sources say Phelps didn't make it through his field sobriety and a breathalyzer indicated that his BAC was nearly twice the legal limit.
This isn't the first time Phelps has been busted for driving under the influence. In 2004, a then 19-year-old Phelps was pulled over and found to be intoxicated. He struck a plea deal and got off with 18 months probation.
Phelps cleaned up his act and went on to win an astonishing 18 Olympic gold medals. In 2008 the so-called Flying Fish slipped up again, however, as Phelps was caught smoking weed while partying with college kids.
Since that second incident, he's mainly kept of trouble (unless you count Phelps' brief association with Lindsay Lohan).
Phelps and his reps have thus far declined to speak publicly about this latest incident.
There's currently no word on what sort of prosecution Phelps might be facing. We'll keep you updated as more details become available.
