Brian Blessed has revealed that he once turned down the iconic role of The Doctor, as he was too busy with other projects.
The 77-year-old, known for his booming voice and infectious laugh, was offered the part nearly 50 years ago, but revealed that he would happily take on the role now.
Speaking to Radio Times, he revealed he was first approached to star in the show in the 1960s, but unfortunately the show clashed with his other commitments.

But Brian still got the chance to appear on Doctor Who, when he played King Yrcanos in an 1986 episode of the show, when Colin Baker starred as The Doctor.

And whilst Brian admitted that he would jump at the chance to play The Doctor now, he had some suggestions for the show's future, saying, "It's about time they had an Asian actor as the Doctor... And a female one."
The next series of 'Doctor Who', which will see Peter Capaldi take on the role of the Time Lord begins on BBC1 on 23 August.
