Oh The Drama! Check Out The Official Downton Abbey Trailer As Return Date Is Confirmed
Aug 30th 2014, 20:20

It's the moment Downton Abbey fans have been waiting for! The return date of the new series of the hit ITV drama was revealed earlier this evening by ITV who confirmed - via Twitter - that viewers will be reunited with the Downton residents on September 21.

So, before the new series starts, let's take a look back at what happened during the fourth  series. Lady Mary was still in a state of mourning after losing her beloved husband Matthew, six month before, but as the series went on, Mary's broken heart began to heal and it was at that moment that she found herself in a bit of a love triangle with Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake. However, as life started to look positive for Mary, things were looking more sinister for Anna Bates and Lady Edith. Happily married Anna's life was turned upside down when she was raped by Green, Lord Gillingham's valet, whilst Lady Edith found out that she was pregnant but with her love and father of her child, Michael Gregson missing, Edith had no choice but to keep her pregnancy a secret from her family.

So, what does the new series have in store? Along with the release of the return date, the lovely people at ITV also released the official trailer, and it appears things are changing.

Downton Abbey will be back on September 21 (ITV Pictures)

With Carson declaring "I feel a shaking of the ground I stand on", scenes featuring Ms Hughes, the Dowager Countess and newcomer Simon Bricker - played by the fantastic Richard E Grant - are played one after the other showing the changes taking place. And it seems that the drama will be a plenty this series with Lord Grantham angrily declaring in one scene: "Our grandchild is about to be stolen from us forever". Who on earth could be taking about? George or Sybie?

But the drama isn't just the result of words said by the Downton residents, as a fire will take place in the stately home. However, it looks as though we're going to get some light relief from all the drama with a perfect quip from Dame Maggie Smith's Dowager. Responding to Isobel Crawley's declaration that "servants are human beings too", the Dowager says: "Yes, but preferably only on their days off." WE LOVE HER!
