Are Mariah Carey And Adele In Talks To Replace Celine Dion In Las Vegas?
Aug 29th 2014, 14:26

Celine Dion shocked her legions of fans when she recently announced that she will be temporarily stepping down from her iconic Las Vegas residency earlier this month but it looks as though her soon-to-be vacant spot could be filled by one of her fellow divas, with reports claiming the likes of Mariah Carey and Adele are in talks to replace her.

'Think Twice' hitmaker Celine announced on August 13 that she will be postponing her residency at Caesar's Palace, which she has had on and off since 2002, to take care of her sick husband Rene Angelil, leaving fans saddened that they won't be seeing the powerhouse belter on stage for a while. However, their disappointment could soon be lifted as TMZ reports that promoters AEG Live have been approaching some of the biggest pop stars to take her place.

Former American Idol judge Mariah Carey is said to be in major talks to launch a residency at the famous Sin City venue and has reportedly been offered a staggering $750,000 pay cheque for two shows over a weekend. Other big names which are believed to be in the running to have their turn in the spotlight include British Grammy-winner Adele, who has been on a hiatus since the birth of her son in 2012, country stars and married couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, Bruce Springsteen and Prince.

The concert operators aren't just considering musicians though according to the website, as they're also believed to be thinking of securing comedians Chris Rock and Chelsea Handler for short deals as they're known to sell out major venues, even bigger than the Colosseum which seats 4,300. Announcing her departure from the Vegas residency, Celine, 45, said in a statement released to People: "I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."

If Mariah, 44, does indeed agree to a contract, it'll no doubt mark a fresh start for the singer who has split from husband Nick Cannon after six years of marriage, although it'll mean uprooting their children, three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
