Melissa Rivers is keeping her "fingers crossed" that her mum Joan will make a full recovery, after complications from a routine operation lead to the star being put in a medically induced coma.
Doctors began the complicated process of lifting the 81-year-old from her unconsciousness on Sunday, with a source telling the Daily News that the task will take until Tuesday.
"There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair," the source continued.

The comedic legend was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday morning after she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest while undergoing a routine throat procedure.
And the source revealed that Joan's family are now considering a lawsuit.
"Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame," the friend of the family revealed. "The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support.
"An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill advised."

But for now, all Joan's family can do is wait and pray that the Fashion Police host makes a full recovery.
In a statement released on Sunday, Melissa said, "We are keeping our fingers crossed."
She revealed that her mum was "resting comfortably" and asked that "everyone keep her in your thoughts and prayers."
