When two popular shows collide...

With a five-minute preview of The Simpsons and Family Guy's crossover episode debuting over the weekend, fans of both shows are becoming more excited than ever before to see the residents of Springfield and Quahog unite.

TV show crossovers are often funny, clever and incredibly crowd-pleasing. But above all, they're big attention-seeking ratings gimmicks that often return big viewing figures.

'The Simpsons Guy' will air on September 28 and marks the hour-long season premiere for Seth Macfarlane's show's 13th run. As the big day draws closer and closer, we've rounded up 9 other big crossovers that set fans' pulses racing and made for major TV events.
