Gone Girl Composers Reveal That Director David Fincher 'Pushes' Them To Try Something Different
Sep 25th 2014, 14:30, by Lydia Richardson

Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor has revealed that their relationship with the director David Fincher has "pushed" them to think differently whilst working on the soundtrack for the upcoming film, Gone Girl.

The two musicians - who have worked together since the '90s, when Trent was the frontman for the rock band Nine Inch Nails and Atticus acted as their producer - but it wasn't until the film director David Fincher asked them to compose the soundtrack for the 2010 film, The Social Network, which resulted in an Oscar win for best Original Score at the 83rd Academy Awards, that they became cinematic composers.

The pair have since worked with Fincher on the iconic film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and even more excitingly, they have regrouped for the highly anticipated movie adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel, Gone Girl, which stars Ben Affleck. Talking to the Daily Mail Australia, Trent shared: "David suggests things that I would never, ever think of and it pushes me to go down paths I wouldn't necessarily ever go down,

"One of the reasons it has always been such a successful collaboration is because with a lot of films the music is the last thought. That's not the case for us, we're immersed in the experience. It's not all smiles and nodding of heads. It's trying to hone in on the right thing."

Trent also admitted that their close working relationship has helped them to be more creative. He added: "Atticus and I have been working together for 13 years and we are truly best friends. We can finish each other's sentences and we just have a way of working together that feels great and it's always on good projects."

Atticus explained that he became interested in contributing to the film after his wife couldn't stop re-reading the thriller novel. He shared: "My wife had read Gone Girl a few times and when I knew David was working on it that he fitted the tone and would do something interesting with it. There's something unique about David and we're very aware that he's making movies from a special place."
