Sarah Hyland really has proven herself to be one heck of a strong woman. This week it emerged that the young actress, who stars as stroppy teen Hayley Dunfey in the hit comedy Modern Family, was granted a restraining order against an abusive ex-boyfriend. Court papers revealed that her violent ex, Matthew Prokop, abused her both mentally and physically for the past four years of their relationship with incidents reported as recently as August this year.
But the 23-year-old has shown herself to be a far cry from her on screen alter ego, deciding to move on with a smile on her face and never to look back as she celebrates being a member of one of the biggest – and best – shows on US television. Brushing off her traumatic breakup, the starlet posted an adorable message ahead of tonight's season 6 premiere, alongside a picture of the whole team celebrating their fifth consecutive Emmy win last month.
"Tonight's the night!!! Season 6 premiere of #modernfamily on abc 9/8c!!!! I can't believe I've been working with this show for almost 6 years!" she said. "I love these people with all of my heart and will never forget this blessing of a job ... Hope you all enjoy the new season!!" Hyland has remained silent since her turbulent split was exposed earlier this week, but her words speak volumes and we couldn't be happier to see her dust off that bozo like real trooper. Representatives for the starlet have asked for her privacy at this time.

No charges have been filed at this time but the restraining order prohibits Prokop from coming within 100 yards of the brunette. A court order has been set for October 10, which will determine if the order will be extended. He is yet to comment.

The restraining order claims that Hyland's on screen mother, Julie Bowen, was present when she broke up with Prokop, who allege that the 24-year-old who is also an actor, threw a lighter at her and then threw a lighter at his then girlfriend in front of Bowen and two other colleagues. Julie, who plays Claire Dunfey on the show, warned her co-star that she should leave her house over fears for her safety.
