Ian Somerhalder 'Predicts' The Vampire Diaries Could End Soon
Sep 4th 2014, 14:22

Ian Somerhalder gave The Vampire Diaries fans a fright at the end of the fifth season when his character Damon failed to make it back from The Other Side with Bonnie. And now, the actor has installed fear in fans again by revealing that The Vampire Diaries could end soon.

With filming for the sixth season of the hit CW network show well underway, everything appeared hunky dory until Digital Spy reported Ian admitting that the sixth season could be the last. Ian, who has played the role of Damon since 2009, was quoted as saying: "It very well could be our last [season] I think now that there's a finality to it, everyone's really realising that this is a very important time in our lives. We created some very cool storytelling."

A rep for Ian and a rep for The Vampire Diaries has been approached for comment.

However, we hope that Ian is just pulling our leg as executive producer Julie Plec appeared to suggest that there are no plans for The Vampire Diaries to come to an end any time soon. Speaking about the future of the show in relation to the speculation that either Ian, Nina Dobrev or Paul Wesley have yet to sign up for season seven, Plec told E! News:

"I think the show will go as long as the actors want the show to go. You know, look, everybody's under contract. I know that we've got plans for season six, we've got plans for season seven. I know that our bosses have plans for seasons eight, nine, and 10. I said I want to be part of it as long as I know I could keep telling good stories and as long as the ensemble people that I work with want to be there and are committed and dedicated."

Showing no signs of any problems with the cast, Plec continued to comment: "So, so far so good, you know. We'll see how long we can stay, doing it well. We'll make sure that we don't start sucking."

It is interesting to note that the season five finale drew in 1.61 million viewers earlier this year, which was slightly down on the 2.24 million viewers who watched scenes unfold in the fourth season finale that aired in 2013.
