Michael Johns Dead -- 'American Idol' Contestant Dies at 35 Aug 2nd 2014, 19:50, by TMZ Staff breaking news "American Idol" finalist Michael Johns died Friday at the age of 35. The singer's death is reportedly believed from a blood clot in his ankle. The singer placed 8th in Season 7 (2008) and following his exit from the show he continued to record music.  He recorded an album -- "Hold Back My Heart" in 2009. Johns was married to Stacey Vuduris.  They married in 2007. A rep for the singer's fan site tweeted, "It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns."
