Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey's separation took the America's Got Talent host's family, "off-guard" according to his father, who has spoken out about the break-up which was confirmed last week.
The couple married in 2008 and has seemed pretty loved up over the last few years, but when reports began emerging that not all was well, Cannon confirmed they'd been living together for sometime. But is it over? According to James Cannon, there's still hope but blames their teams for ruining the relationship.
He told the New York Post: "If Nick could have somehow ran her business, or worked in conjunction with her, they would have been such a power couple in Hollywood,"
"It's difficult, but look at Beyoncé and Jay Z."

On whether the couple have got a future, James said: "They need to stick this out,"
And time away from the "teams of people pulling them separate ways."
"The love is always going to be there, but they just don't have that quality of time," he said. "The last thing Nick will want to do is look back and think the marriage blew up in his face."
Claiming the split came as a shock, he added: "Everything was beautiful as far as I knew,"
"The separation has really caught us off guard." He said claiming, Mariah was "at our home two weeks ago, talking and laughing . . . I've never seen them argue." And, "I see Mariah as an angel to our family . . . I never saw [her] as a diva."

James also took the chance to deny his son had ever been unfaithful to Mariah saying: "Were temptations ever there with other women? Not for Nick, he genuinely loved the married life . . . But did that stop other women coming to him? Probably not."
"I know Nick tries really hard to stay focused and would say: 'I'm with the most outstanding, gorgeous woman. I've hit the jackpot so why would I be with someone else?' "
While James might hope his daughter-in-law stays in the family an "insider" has told TMZ the break-up is a done deal and there's no chance of a reconciliation. They're said to be trying to make it as easy as possible on their children and even dined out together in Tribeca, New York, on Monday.
