Seth Meyers Ends The Emmy Awards Embarrassing Run Of Hosts (WATCH)

It's possibly one of the most daunting moments for any comic but last night Seth Meyers made hosting the biggest night on the television calendar look like a breeze in the park, going down a storm with audiences, particularly for his hilarious opening monologue.

We can't remember the last time a host went down so well. With an onslaught of scrutiny over the past few years, The Emmy Awards has been full of more cringes than laughs, until last night.

The 'Saturday Night Live' star previously admitted he was nervous but excited for the show which let's face it is possibly the toughest gig of any comic's career.

"Jokes are like nominees," he began. "They can't all be winners". And while admittedly he got it spot on, not al of his jokes could be champions, generally the first-timer host was a comedic triumph!

Mocking Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, he opened the show joking: "We're doing the show on Monday in part because the MTV Music Awards were last night. That's right: MTV still has an awards show for music videos even though they no longer show music videos. That's like network TV holding an awards show and giving all the trophies to cable and Netflix. That would be crazy."

Steeping into the debate surrounding the "categories some shows were submitted in," he quipped: "Orange is the New Black was submitted as a comedy rather than a drama. True Detective was submitted as a drama instead of a mini-series. And Bachelor in Paradise was submitted."

Unlike recent stints, the host played to his strengths playing it straight with just the jokes. There were no big bands or show-stopping musical skits and unlike a Ricky Gervais or Seth MacFarlane, the cruel jokes mocking the star-studded audiences took a back seat and really weren't missed by audiences or guests at all.
