It is an annual event which attracts a slew of stars dressed up in their most glamorous ensembles.

But Sofia Vergara and Freida Pinto stood head and shoulders above the rest at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC on Saturday night.

The 41-year-old Modern Family star arrived in a stunning strapless gold and pale pink fishtail-style gown which accentuated her famously curvy figure.

She wore her light brown hair loose over her shoulders, complete with smokey brown eye make-up and glossy lipstick.

The Colombian-born star arrived with her fiancé Nick Loeb and the handsome couple happily posted for photographs outside the Washington Hilton Hotel.

Frieda, meanwhile, shimmered in a champagne pink gown by Thakoon that allowed a glimpse of skin courtesy of a cut-out in the front.

Rose McGowan also plumped for a metallic look - sporting a strapless plunging bronze corset with a black draped skirt creating a rather eye-catching ensemble.

The star arrived with her fiancé Eric Johnson who looked smart in a Ralph Lauren black suit and tie.

The dinner is an annual event which sees President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle join journalists, government officials, politicians and media personalities.

Several journalists were to be awarded prizes for their coverage of the presidency and national issues.

Glenn Thrush of Politico and Brianna Keilar of CNN won the Aldo Beckman Award, which recognizes excellence in the coverage of the presidency.

Peter Baker of The New York Times and Peter Maer of CBS News won the Merriman Smith Award for deadline coverage.

Megan Twohey of Reuters and a partnership between The Center for Public Integrity's Chris Hamby and ABC News' Matthew Mosk and Brian Ross won the Edgar A. Poe Award for coverage of issues of national significance.
