AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Not even Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey can compete with Willie Nelson in this town.
The country music icon who already had a downtown street and 8-foot statue in his honor in Austin added a spot in the inaugural class of the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on Saturday night.
He was inducted by McConaughey, his friend and fellow Texan, who recently picked up his first Academy Award for best actor in "Dallas Buyers Club."
McConaughey said that without Nelson there would be no Austin City Limits. Nelson was the first performer when the show launched in 1974.
Fellow country icons Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett joined their friend Nelson on stage.
