Everything You Need To Know About Eurovision 2014 Winner Conchita
May 11th 2014, 11:16

Conchita Wurst of Austria was the star of last night's Eurovision Song Contest, soaring to victory and surely sealing her fate as a major star in the making.

With her powerful James Bond style ballad Rise Like A Phoenix, Conchita was the clear winner of the night, beating 25 other acts including United Kingdom entrant Molly who came in at 17th.

When she picked up her trophy, an emotional Conchita spread the message of unity and love as she told the huge crowd in Denmark and millions of TV viewers:

"This night is dedicated to all who believe in a future of peace and freedom. You know who you are. We are unity and we are unstoppable!"

So who is the Austrian star who has taken the world by storm?

1. Conchita's real name is Tom Neuwirth, and was born in Gmunden, Austria in 1988. Tom has said he created the persona of Conchita to "call for tolerance for everything that seems different."

Watch Tom performing under his real name on Austrian TV below.

2. Tom chose his drag surname Wurst not because of the German word sausage but because of the common German expression: "Das ist mir doch alles Wurst," which loosely translates as "it's all the same to me, and I don't care".

3. The star is already a big name in her home country after taking part in reality TV shows (as Conchita) including The Hardest Jobs of Austria where she worked in a fish factory. Her appearance got her noticed in Germany where she was invited to take part in Wild Girls- living in an African desert with native tribes.

4. Conchita also once worked as a shop window decorator.

5. She reached the final of the 2007 Austrian casting show Stramania.

6. The singer is also a former member of boyband Jetzt Anders.

7. She competed in the talent show Die Große Chance finishing in second place where her fame soon soared.

8. Conchita is something of a Eurovision veteran, having tried previously to represent her country in 2012 with the song That's What I Am.

9. While Twitter was flooded with love and support following her win last night, Conchita was the subject of a number of petitions to get her axed from the show from countries like
Russia and Belarus.

10. But overcoming the hate, Conchita Wurst won with her entry declared the winner before the final few countries had even announced their results. Take that.
