Lupita Nyong'o might be the darling of Hollywood after her Oscar-winning performance in 12 Years A Slave, but Nigerian-Cameroonian pop star Dencia has slammed the star after Lupita's public condemnation of skin-whitening products.
After winning an award at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood event in February, Lupita gave an acceptance speech where she recalled a letter sent to her by a fan who had wanted to use Whitenicious, a skin-whitening cream created by Dencia.

"My heart bled a little when I read those words," Lupita said in her widely supported speech. But the girl had been inspired by Lupita and her success and beauty not to go through with skin lightening treatments.
In her speech, Lupita revealed how she had once felt inferior about her dark skin but now feels great pride. Left unimpressed with Lupita's remarks, Dencia took to Twitter to blast the actress. "Every year the Oscars use 1 black scape goat 2 fool blacks 2 support them, this is ur year, next year another black person get over urselves[sic]," the pop star wrote during awards season.
"& oh @Lupita_Nyongo cln't talk abt the bleaching creams white people (Companies) make cuz the white man pays her, they own her!![sic]" she later tweeted.
Lupita, who was widely praised for her red carpet appearances recently signed a deal with Lancome, becoming the brand's first black ambassador, and Dencia is not happy about it – pointing out that the company sell the controversial skin lightening products.
"But they sell bleaching cream tho RT @IamNappyBaby: @IamDencia b—h lupita is the new face of LancĂ´me!! SHE WINS!! And you're just TRASH[sic]," Dencia tweeted last week.

Lancome's Blanc Expert, which Dencia could be referring to, is described by the brand as "the latest brightening technology designed to regulate melanin production and awaken the luminosity of the skin."
Dencia appeared on Channel 4 last month to discuss her use of skin lightening products and also touched on Lupita and her choice to reject products such as Whitenicious.
"I don't know her, her story is her story, that's her personal life," Dencia said. "I dont care about her story. I'm an adult, if I lighten my skin, it's my choice."
