Zac Efron Opens Up About Life After Rehab: 'It's A Never-Ending Struggle'
Apr 30th 2014, 16:56

It was revealed last year that Zac Efron had spent some time in rehab to deal with his alcohol addiction and the actor has now opened up about his troubles in a new interview, saying that it has all been an "interesting journey" and despite the battle, he doesn't have any regrets.

Zac, who is currently promoting his latest movie Neighbors, also opened up about the recent fight in Los Angeles, where a homeless man attacked him when the car he was in ran out of gas. Despite sources immediately linking the brawl to his alcohol and alleged drug issues, Efron has now revealed exactly what happened that night.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Efron said: "We were having trouble finding somewhere — a lot of places were closed — and the car ran out of gas off the 110. It was ridiculous. We had to pull over, and I called Uber."

He said, while they were waiting: "A homeless guy, or vagrant, tapped on the driver's-side window. Before I knew it, he [the friend] was out of the car, and they started fighting. I saw that [the homeless man] was carrying some sort of a knife, or shank, and I got out of the car to disarm him. At some point, he dropped the knife, and I got hit pretty hard in the face — and almost instantly the police were there to break up the fight."

The former High School Musical babe also spoke out about how life was like before he headed to rehab, with the 26-year-old blaming Hollywood pressures for him spiralling out of control.

Zac continued to tell the publication: "I was drinking a lot, way too much. It's never one specific thing. I mean, you're in your 20s, single, going through life in Hollywood, you know? Everything is thrown at you. I wouldn't take anything back; I needed to learn everything I did. But it was an interesting journey, to say the least."

However, since he has joined alcoholics anonymous, Efron has said that life is now much better, with him telling the mag: "I just started going. And I think it's changed my life. I'm much more comfortable in my own skin. Things are so much easier now. It's a never-ending struggle."
