Emma Watson Attracts Celebrity Supporters For UN Gender Equality #HeForShe Campaign
Sep 23rd 2014, 15:19

Emma Watson has left a long-lasting affect after delivering an inspirational speech at a UN conference earlier this week to raise awareness for gender equality, as a number of celebrities, including Ellie Goulding, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Douglas Booth, have hopped on board to support her campaign which is being promoted through the hashtag: #HeForShe.

The 23-year-old is a UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador and announced her campaign at their headquarters in New York on Monday, urging men to get involved and fight for the women in their life too, insisting that it's also their "issue."

Well, it seems that Emma's words have really hit home as several celebrities - both male and female - have piped up to back the Harry Potter actress in her quest for gender equality with the rich and famous from all corners of showbiz taking to Twitter and Facebook to air their support, some sharing photos of themselves holding signs with "#HeForShe" written on card.

Emma's Noah co-star Douglas Booth tweeted: "I am a passionate supporter of gender equality," while Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote: "And speaking of #Feminism, @EmWatson is doing a great project called #HeForShe. Go check it out. Trying to hash tag #Feminism, 1st autofill on twitter is "#FeministsAreUgly."

The actress' fellow British star Simon Pegg wrote: "Husband to a wife, father to a daughter, son to a mother. You bet I'm on board, @EmWatson! #heforshe," while actor James Ver Der Beek commented: "Guys, @EmWatson really got it right. Gender equality isn't about taking a side, it's about human dignity for all. It's evolution #HeForShe."

It's not only the men that are speaking out though as some of Emma's female celebs have come out in force, with 'Burn' singer Ellie Goulding tweeting: "A beautiful speech @EmWatson http://youtu.be/p-iFl4qhBsE Inspired. #HeforShe." Game Of Thrones actress Maisie Williams, 17, simply retweeted Emma's speech.
