Last week the director unveiled the first round of stars from his cast with original trio Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford all back. Brit newcomers Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are joined by Girls star Adam Driver and LOTR genius Andy Serkis.
Several sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Abrams has another "substantial role to fill" in his cast, with the insiders claiming it is a female part. Earlier this year it was reported that the director and his team were searching for a mixed-raced female in her 20s for a major role.
12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong'o has been linked to a part with insiders claiming the director met with the star before her win at the Oscars in March. British newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers has also seen her name in countless casting reports, but was a surprise omission from the announcement last week.
