Why Has Matt Smith Ruled Out Appearance In Sherlock?
Apr 24th 2014, 14:22

But Steven Moffat hasn't ruled out the possibility of getting Matt to appear in the BBC drama

Former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith has dismissed the idea of a possible appearance on Sherlock by insisting that there are enough "peculiar Englishmen" in the show in terms of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's roles.

Speaking at the Wizard World Comic Con, Matt who departed from Doctor Who at the end of last year, declared: "Listen, there's no room for me on Sherlock! They've got Benedict and Martin, that's quite enough peculiar Englishmen for that show.

"There's no room for another."

We reckon fans of Doctor Who and Sherlock would disagree.

And whilst Matt may have ruled himself out of the running to appear on the show, Steven Moffat revealed that he was open to the idea of getting Matt on Sherlock. According to Zap2it, Stephen said in January:

"If there was a perfect part for him, there's no rule against it. We wouldn't want it to be stunt casting, because stunt casting doesn't work, so it would have to be just because he was overwhelmingly right for it. I love working with Matt.

"He's a phenomenal actor. I'd jump at the chance to work with him again. I don't know how likely that is to be on the set of Sherlock."

And speaking of possible appearances on Sherlock, Mark Gatiss remained coy about the possibility of Tom Hiddleston making a cameo in the hit BBC drama.

Despite refusing to confirm or deny the rumours, co-creator Mark Gatiss did like the idea of Tom joining the cast. Revealing his thoughts during a Q&A in Brazil, the Mirror reported the star who also plays the role of Mycroft in Sherlock, saying:

"Tom would be wonderful in Sherlock, I'm sure, but he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like", before going on to tease:

"Well it's an internet rumour so it must be true. We might as well just wait and see what happens."
