You've heard of girl power, but it was boy-power which propelled Radio 1's Big Weekend into success on Sunday.

A horde of stars took to the main stage in Glasgow's city centre, which peaked with Coldplay's Chris Martin joining the Kings Of Leon for a rocking session.

The collaboration caps 48 hours of live music presented by the BBC's mainstream youth music station.

Fresh from his split from Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris was clearly delighted to be at the live concert.

The Kings Of Leon were already on stage when they invited him on to join them, which he did to rapturous applause.

Frontman Caleb Followill and Martin both rocked-out in the set, which saw them wearing matching clothes.

After a number of songs, the men shook hands and hugged in mutual appreciation for the random show, which included the track Sex on Fire.

Prior to that, a number of other boy bands also took to the stage.

They included The Vamps, who look set to follow in the footsteps of McFly and Busted with their teen-pop appeal.

Wearing a slew of black leather and tartan print, with an added kilt for good measure, the lads looked typically rock-n-roll.

They performed all of their big hits including Can We Dance and Wild Heart, which got the crowd moving.

Other singers who took to the stage before them included John Newman, who wore a white tailored suit and recently performed with Martha Reeves in Camden.

The show also featured Sam Smith, who has dominated the charts with his track Money On My Mind.

Smith already has a number one single under his belt after his vocals were featured on Naughty Boy hit La La La, and he has also recorded with Disclosure.

Only recently he took to Twitter to announce that he has recreated that success in America, saying:
'I can't believe this my Apollo show in New York SOLD OUT IN FIVE MINUTES!! Can't wait to see you all.'
