The Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley has jokingly predicted when The Vampire Diaries will end... and it's all down to Ian Somerhalder.
Teasing that the longevity of the hit CW network show depends on Ian's age, Paul Wesley told E! News:
"I think realistically, until Ian Somerhalder is like in his mid to late 40s which is actually coming up. I'm just kidding."
Ian, who plays the role of Damon Salvatore, is 35 years-old.

All joking aside, Paul who plays Damon's brother, Stefan, went on to say:
"I don't know. Here's the deal, the show has become a bit of a - it's a large cast, there are a lot of important characters and I think that it depends on if the audience are interested. I think, for example, we have this new character called Enzo. He's really interesting. I don't know. Maybe Enzo will have his own show.
"I really don't know. I mean, they could probably keep Vampire Diaries on for quite a long time because there's so many interesting characters."
However, fans were left in shock after watching last night's show which saw Damon fade into The Other Side. Scared that Damon had died, fans began to tweet their thoughts. One fan posted on the social networking site: "#TVDFinale made me cry so much I'm still crying, Damon cannot be dead!!!!! I refuse to believe it ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ @cwtvd."
Not accepting what they had just seen, one fan posted: "I'm in tears from watching the vampire diaries finale. DAMON SALVATORE CANNOT BE DEAD. I won't accept it. Like no. #TVDFinale", whilst another added:
"THE VAMPIRE DIARIES SEASON FINALE LEFT A SCAR ON MY HEART. 💔 IVE BEEN WATCHING IT SINCE DAY ONE. DAMON !! 😩 BONNIE !! 😩 #TheVampireDiaries."
Threatening to boycott the show if Damon doesn't return to the show, another fan posted on the social networking site: "I am never watching the show again if Damon and Bonnie don't come back!! Seriously! WTF!! No! #TheVampireDiaries #TVDSeasonFinale."
"If Bonnie and Damon don't come back I am never watching #VampireDiaries ever again. STUPID SEASON FINALE @cwtvd", added another who was left shocked with the scenes of Damon being trapped on The Other Side.
