British Soap Awards 2014: Helen Worth Receives Outstanding Achievement Award

Helen gave an emotional speech as she looked over her 40 years in Coronation Street

Tonight's British Soap Awards have been full of drama, fights and tears - and that's just in the video clips! After some hilarious and emotional speeches, it was time to give one amazing actor or actress the Outstanding Achievement Award. And this year's recipient was…. Helen Worth!

Helen has been playing Gail Platt in Coronation Street for 40 years, which is an amazing feat in itself - but is even more amazing when she was only originally cast for 11 episodes! Her history with men might not be fantastic, but her acting truly has been.

After reminiscing over her Corrie life, and listening to her fellow Corrie castmates describe her as "a joy, kind, generous funny"; "a lovely, genuine woman to work with," and an actress whose "dedication is inspiring," Helen took to the stage to give a very Gail-esque, emotional speech.

"Oh my goodness! Oh that's extraordinary. I've just watched 40 years of my life go past me in two minutes! And all those lovely things that you lovely people said about me… thank you so much, thank you," she said.

"And here I am getting an award for just having fun for 40 years! I think I remember somebody one say saying to me if you want to be the best, surround yourself with the best - and that's what I've done!"

"Thank you to writers and producers who take such good care of Gail, and thank you to my husband too for understanding the whacky world of soap so very well! And thank you viewers for laughing and crying - and I admit it's been mostly crying! - with Gail over 40 years and I look forward to more."

We've laughed and cried (a lot!) with you Helen, and we can't wait to see more either! Keep being amazing!

What do you think of this year's Outstanding Achievement Award winner?
