TV presenter Ben Fogle revealed on Twitter this week he was the victim of a mugging in London, but it turns out burly Ben gave the would be attacker a swift right hook, causing the man to run away.

Looks like the rather polite Ben is more rugged than we thought and a bit of a hero, but he's not the only one who've taken things into their own hands in times of danger.

Check out these celebrity wannabe-heroes:

1. Lydia Bright

When her shop was vandalised in 2012, Lydia Bright didn't just call the police – she became the police. The former TOWIE star performed a citizen's arrest on the culprit after her sister, Georgia Bright, and the TOWIE film crew, who were shooting scenes at the time, ran after him.

According to an eyewitness, the fashion savvy reality star was in her store Bella Sorella with sister Georgia, mother Debbie and close friend and co-star Lucy Mecklenburgh when the attacker struck the vintage shop in Essex. The vandal was uncovered as an 18-year-old, who was arrested for criminal damage and received a caution.

2. LL Cool J

LL Cool J: To catch a thief (WENN)

Lydia isn't the only star who has a citizen's arrest under her belt, rapper legend LL Cool J also made a citizens arrest in 2012 after a burglar tried to break into his million dollar home in Studio City, California, and boy did he pick the wrong house.

According to Fox News, the rapper snatched the burglar and held him hostage while his daughter called 911. The well-built rapper was not hurt during the attempted robbery and nothing was taken, because of course the mighty LL Cool J ensured the robber didn't get that far. In fact, it was the burglar who had suffered 'minor bruises' during the incident.

That plan slightly backfired. TMZ reported that the "Something like a Phenomenon" singer could have easily stayed safe upstairs in his room after the alarm rang but instead of waiting for the police to arrive LL Cool J took matters into his own hands, and confronted the burglar hands on. We reckon he wanted to put to practice what he'd learnt as tough copper, Sam Hanna on American police drama NCIS, what do you reckon?

3. Taye Diggs

Taye Diggs underwent a similar incident after he nabbed a thief who tried to break into his home, also in Studio City, right after he had finished presenting this year's SAG awards. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the attack happened at 11.20pm, with the culprit being 20-year-old Hassan Juma, who thought actor Taye and his Glee star wife Idina Menzel were not in. Moral of the story, don't buy a house in Studio City!

4. Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling: Star regretted stepping in and stopping a robbery (WENN)

Actor Ryan Gosling melted more women's hearts back in 2011 when he broke up a street fight in New York. The Notebook actor broke up the fight, which saw a man trying to steal an artist's painting, on a busy street in Manhattan, but the aftermath wasn't quite what he'd hope after the actor admitted he was "embarrassed" for intervening in the fight, which wasn't quite how it seemed.

In the end, Ryan actually felt sorry for the thief, telling the Daily Mail: "It was sad, because it turns out that I said to the guy, 'Why are you doing this?' He said, 'Well, he tried to steal my painting. I said, 'How do you know?' and he said, 'Well he comes here every day and looks at my paintings.

"Which means the guy was a fan, and so he wanted the painting so bad he had to steal it because he couldn't afford it."

We know you were only trying to help Ryan, and we liked watching you act all smouldering and manly – every cloud.

5. Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet re-invented the meaning of 'grab a granny' (WENN)

Back in 2011, actress Kate Winslet proved she was more than just a pretty face – but also a very tough cookie – when she rescued her children and Richard Branson's mother Eve, from a fire on the Virgin mogul's Necker Island. Kate and husband Ned RockNRoll – nephew of Richard Branson – are currently expecting their first child together, and rumour has it the rescue has inspired Kate to name their baby Eve, if it's a girl of course.

6. Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana: She might not look it but she's one tough cookie! (WENN)

She may play the tough Cataleya in Colombiana but Zoe Saldana's tough girl image doesn't terminate there after the actress helped an elderly lady after a car accident in California, in 2012.

The Avatar star, 33, ran to the rescue of the elderly woman after witnessing the incident. She "immediately got on the phone to 911 and she seemed very concerned." An onlooker revealed. "While waiting for help to arrive, Zoe returned to the woman's car and picked up the woman's handbag and sweater. Zoe was very caring and sweet to the woman." Just when we thought she couldn't get any cooler.
